Investigating the Endowments of Khwaja Sarayan and its Effect on Public Health and Health During the Safavi Period

One of the important functions of waqf in the society is thedevelopment of public health and community health. Becausemaintaining cleanliness and public health is one of theimportant issues in the life and social relations of every peopleand nation, which is rooted in people's ancient culture andbeliefs. The expansion of endowments in the Safavid periodand the attention of the courtiers, especially the eunuchs, to theendowment and allocation of various endowments in thecontext of the health status of the society is emphasized by thesources of this period. Because one of the actions of KhwajaSarayan in this period was the establishment of health facilitiesincluding bathrooms to expand public health and communityhealth. Based on this, the present research, using a descriptiveanalytical method, tries to investigate the role of endowmentsof Khwaja Sarayan in public health and the health of Sufi erasociety. The results of the research indicate that many factorshad an impact on the health of the society during the Safavidera. One of them was the expansion of the bathhouse andallocation of endowments for their management andmaintenance by Khwaja Sarayan. During this period, due totheir huge income and wealth, the eunuchs allocated a part oftheir income in the form of endowments for the developmentof public health and community health in the form ofestablishing public baths and had an important impact on thestate of urban health.
