Inhibiting Factors (Obstacles) to the Development of Police Applied Martial Arts

Abstract:
Background and objectives

Improving the physical and combat fitness of law enforcement officers is one of the most important and effective ways to help establish order and security in society and successfully carry out assigned missions. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to identify the factors preventing the development of applied martial arts in the police command of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Method

In terms of its objectives this study is of an applied research type and in terms of method exploratory and in terms of data type qualitative. The participants include martial arts experts and members of the academic faculty of the university who were selected using purposeful sampling, which theoretical saturation was done with 17 interviews. The data collection tool in this research is a semi-structured interview. Validity, confirmability, reliability and verifiability methods were used to check validity and reliability. In the current research, content analysis method and MAXQDA software were used for open, axial, and selective coding.

Findings

Based on the findings of the research, among 37 secondary concepts and 7 main concepts (inappropriate view and attitude, weak interaction and communication, weak management and planning, individual factors, lack of budget and credits, lack of infrastructure and facilities and lack of resources human) were identified.

Results

Based on the findings of this research, by planning and focusing on the factors inhibiting the development of martial arts in the law enforcement command of the Islamic Republic of Iran, it is possible to create conditions to solve the problems of this field in a logical and principled way and to develop martial arts in the law enforcement command.
