Abstract:
In recent decades, several studies have been conducted on the seismic behavior of bridges under various earthquakes. Shear keys in bridge, as fuse elements, play an important role in bridges to prevent the deck of the bridge from falling under the structure. But, an important issue that has not been given much attention in these studies is the effect of the site effect of bridge on the responses generated in the shear keys at the time of the earthquake. In the present study, after constructing a finite element model of a bridge with its other components, including shear keys, in realistic three-dimensional conditions, the accuracy of the model's performance is confirmed by comparing it with valid results. Then, considering the effect of soil flexibility and linear and nonlinear soil behaviors under the bridge, their effects on seismic response (under the TABAS earthquake) in the bridge and shear keys will be examined. The changes in the response of the bridge can be seen in some cases up to 37% due to the flexibility of the soil. Under the influence of change in soil flexibility and also taking into account soil behavior more realistically under the conditions of soil elasto-plastic behavior, the response in shear keys is up to 100% different. This makes it necessary to carefully design the bridges, especially the shear keys them under different earthquakes and soils.
