Introduction and goal

The education system plays a vital role in transmitting values and cultivating the talents of students. Given the increasing population and the demand for effective education, attention to the quality of educational spaces and the enhancement of students' morale and motivation has gained special importance. This study examines the role of open spaces in schools in enhancing vitality and satisfaction among primary school students, considering elements of a biophilic approach.

Research methodology

This research is applied in nature and employs a descriptive, survey-based, and field study methodology. The statistical population consists of 4,200 primary school teachers in Yasouj, with a sample size of 352 teachers selected. The main data collection tools included a checklist for evaluating educational spaces and a performance questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS software and relevant statistical tests.

Findings

The results indicated a significant correlation between the school's open spaces and the vitality and satisfaction of students. Additionally, environmental characteristics, natural forms, and light directly impact students’ vitality and satisfaction, highlighting the necessity of designing educational spaces with these elements in mind.

Conclusion

Educational spaces, especially open areas in primary schools, require suitable design aligned with biophilic principles. Such design can enhance learning, boost motivation, and foster positive attitudes among students. The findings of this research underscore the importance of improving the quality of educational spaces and addressing the psychological and physical needs of students. Recommendations for future research include exploring the impact of biophilic architecture on mental health and academic performance.
