Review of the Book Aristotle in China

The Aristotle book "Categories" was translated into Chinese in the 17th century. It appeared under the title of Ming li tan, namely, "A Study of the Theory of Names". Robert Wordey conducted a challenging examination of this work and made a study on the opinion that the intellectual templates have a correspondence with the structures of language. They regard language as a restricting factor for developing philosophical thought there are somewho believe that in case a particular thought does not exist in a philosophical tradition, this might be due to the fact that their language does not permit them to do so. He provides a negative answer to the query whether the most influential text of metaphysic in the history of the West must necessarily be expressed in one language and one language family. Wordey regards the Chinese version of a foreign mode of thought, such as thought, good evidence that the same earlier expressed in the West can be re-expressed in Chinese. He admits that the essence of Aristotle's thouhgt is expressed in Chines; however some changes have been made in the book. He holds that the shortcomings of the Chinese version have nothing to do with its dependence on the Chinese language rather it is because of re-expressing an originally Greco-Latin culture in terms of the Chinese language.
