Number Group in Machine Translation

The purpose of number group representation is to construct the permissible combinations of cardinal and ordinal numbers in Persian language. In this paper 38 members of the Persian enumeration system have been placed in four multi-member and two single member groups. The said 38 members were placed into two general rule groups (Rules applying to the cardinal number groups and ordinal number groups). There are 47 rules governing cardinal numbers while there are only four rules for ordinal numbers. Ordinal numbers are also of two types. An investigation into the potentials for superposition of ordinal and cardinal numbers is made and examples are offered.
