Evaluation of Effectiveness of Thyme C.W (Oral drop) on the Improvement of Respiratory Function of Patients with Chemical Bronchitis inKu rdistan

Chemical bronchitis and its complications has remained since Iran-Iraq war. Since these complications such as: respiratory, cough, dyspnea, and superimposed bacterial and viral infections make the patient weak, this study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of thyme C.W (oral drop 2%) on the improvement of respiratory function of patients with chemical bronchitis in Kurdistan.

This study is a double blind randomized clinical trial (RCT). The statistical population includes 60 known cases of mild chemical bronchitis in two groups (intervention and comparison), receiving routine medical drugs. They were selected randomly and visited four times at an interval of one month. Each time they were evaluated for clinical symptoms and signs and spirometery. The comparison group received placebo and previous drugs. The intervention group received thyme C.W (oral drop 2%) and previous drugs. Data analyses were through SPSS WiN 10 statistical software and with using statistical tests such as: Chi-squar test and wilcoxon signed ranked test.

Regarding the results of our study, using thyme C.W (oral drop 2%) has changed none of the clinical symptoms such as cough, sputum, dyspnea (according to what patient said), nor the signs (lung auscultation) [P>0/05] In this way, there is no significant statistical difference in comparison with the results of spirometery. [P>0/05] (The results of spirometery of each group compared with the other, in each visit and so on, the first spirometery compared with the second, third and forth.)

On the basis of our results from this study, thyme C.W (oral drop 2%) has produced no improvement on the respiratory function of patients with chemical bronchitis.
