A Comparison of Alexithymia, Stress, and Attachment Among Divorcing Couples

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was compa- rison of alexithymia, stress and attach-ment in divorcing couples. Subjects (119 female, 63 male) were collected from Guilan Family Judicature. The instruments were Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20, Bressi et al., 1996) Perceived Stress Scale (PSS, Cohen, et, al, 1987) and Attachment Styles Questioner (Hazan & Shaver 1987).Analysis was based on Pearson, poly choric, poly serial correlation, regress-ion analysis, and (MANOVA). Findings suggest significant relation-ship between stress & attachment and alexithymia. In addition, secure attac- hment showed significant relationship with indicator of emotion subscale of alexithymia. In regression analysis three variables of education, stress and ambivalence attachment predicted ale- xithymia accounting for 32% of variance. There was no significant relationship between gender and perc-eived stress.
