The Philosophical Foundations of Islamic Economic System fromImam Khomaini's Viewpoint

Abstract:

The econmic behaviour of man is the main subject in economics and in any economic system. An economic system daels with how an economic behaviour should be, but economics studies these behaviours as they are. Therefore, the issue of anthropology is of a crucail importance in economics.The first part of this paper is devoted to Imam Khomaini's anthropological views. The implications of such an anthropolgical approach towards economy is spelt out in the second part.The late Imam, identifies and describes the mankind as:1. Human being is a combination of body and soul and possesses physical and spritual dimensions,each one including unlimited ranks.2. Human being is an infinite and eternal creature.3. Man is accountable to God for all his deeds.4. Man is free in his choices.5. His prosperity lies in his nearness to God and attaining absolute beauty and glory.6. Sense, reason and revelation are the three criteria of knowledge.The implications of such an approach towards human being are as under:The economy is not an objective rather it's a mean to achieve higher goals. Islamic economic system is an imperative system. From this perspective rational behaviours are compatible with Islamic Shareiah.
