Indeperdent Decision in Qumis traditional exegesis

The exegesis attributed to Qumi is one of Imami commentaries compiled in 4th century A.H. and classified as traditional. Nevertheless considering the commentary proper, the exegete in numerous cases has relied on his own independent decision in order to comprehend the meaning of the verses/ i. e/ he has interpreted the verses depending on non-traditional sources. In this article, at first we study Qumis exegesis and its status and next we examine different stimuli for his decision making and finally in the last part of the article we consider various factors influentied on the editor’s judgments. This research shows that in all commentaries, even those known as traditional, we can notice the exegetes independent decision making.
