Effectiveness of motivational interviewing on improving physical health outcomes (weight loss and glycogenic control) in adults with Type II diabetes
The present study investigated the effects of group Motivational Interviewing (MI) on weight loss in adult's with type II diabetes. Ninety-three Patients with type II diabetes were selected from Iranian Diabetes Society (IDS) and Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism (IEM). The participants were randomly allocated to the MI group (n=30), CBGT group (n=26), and a control group (n=37). There were no significant differences between the three groups with respect to the baseline characteristics. Results showed that in the MI and CBGT groups, mean of BMI was significantly lower than control group. It was also found that, in the MI than in the CBGT intervention, mean of HbA1c was significantly lower. The findings of this study indicated that in helping adults with type II diabetes, MI in group format and CBGT may be useful interventions to improve patient's weight loss and MI may be more useful than CBGT in helping patterns reduce their glycaemic control.
