Effects of Hypericum perforatum ointment on cesarean wound pain.

Background and The women who undergo cesarean delivery, not only have to tolerate the pain of the surgery, but also need to take care the infant. Therefore, they need intensive care. Observation of the side effects of chemical drugs has increased the tendency to the use of natural products. The aim of this study was determine the effect of Hypericum perforatum ointment on cesarean wound pain in women with surgical child birth at Samenolaemeh hospital in Mashhad. In this double blind randomized clinical trial, 125 women with surgical child birth were randomly allocated in 3 groups. Two of them used Hypericum perforatum ointment or placebo 24 hours after cesarean for 16 days and a control group. Pain was assessed on 10th and 40th day postpartum by visual analog score. Statistical analysis was performed by using Chi-square, Kruskal Wallis, ANOVA tests. significant difference was observed in pain scores on 10th day among control group with groups that received Hypericum perforatum ointment or placebo (p. /..1), however the groups that received ointment had no difference.On 40th day pain scores were higher in placebo () and control group () compared with those who received Hypercom perforatum ointment () but, there were no significant difference between placebo and control group (p=). Hypericum perforatum ointment probably through the prevention of scar formation can decrease cesarean wound pain on 40th day postpartum.
