Relationship between unprotected coitus and preeclampsia

Preeclampsia is a common complication of pregnancy often leading to significant maternal and fetal complication. Preeclampsia occurs more frequently in primigravidaes and multigravidaes who are a change in paternity. This study is performed to assess relationship unprotected coitus with preeclampsia.Method and material: In this analytic(case-control)study 91 primigravidae in case group and 91 primigravidae in control group in age range for 20-35 years were chosen form mothers selected by purposeful sampling.Data gathered by interviews Examination form developed by the investigator. Analysis of data was performed by independent T-Test, Mann-whitney, Chi-square, Logestic-Regression by utilizing spss software and 95% coefficient. Women with a short period of co-habitation or who used barrier methods for contraception had a substantially elevated risk for development of preeclampsia compared with women with more than 4 months of cohabitation before conception.(p=0.0001)Oral contraceptive users had a lower preeclampsia rate than of woman who used no oral contraceptive. (p=0.003) No relationship was observed between coital rate before and during pregnancy and risk for preeclampsia.Discussion and comment: This study suggests a relationship between sperm exposure and risk for preeclampsia, and that the risk of developing preeclampsia in primigravidae is inversely proportional to the length of sexual co-habitation.
