On the Effectiveness of Narrative Therapy Approach in Reducing Women's depression A Case Study of Marvdasht Women

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of narrative therapy approach in reducing women's depression. This study was based on a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test research design. This study drew on a convenient sample of 20 women from Marvdasht who were diagnosed to be depressed. After taking a pretest they were randomly assigned to two groups of experimental and control each consisting of 10 participants. The experimental group was treated utilizing narrative therapy approach, whereas the control group received no treatment. Then both groups took the post-test. The research instruments included Beck Depression Questionnaire, Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire and Dysfunctional Attitudes Questionnaire. Data analysis using t-test indicated that the depression symptoms level, negative automatic thoughts and dysfunctional attitudes of the experimental group lowered in comparison to those in the control group
