Deciding Process of Economically Defining Wind Energy Conversion System Properties in Four Different Regions in Iran

This paper presents a deciding process for choosing the most adoptable wind energy conversion system for regions of Iran. The paper explains the trend during which the consumer can choose the system which is economically acceptable by knowing consumption needs and their living region, examining the influences of parameters affecting properties of small wind turbines, namely rated power and the hub height, to satisfy the power needs in household sector. Factors affecting wind energy conversion systems are categorized into two sets, family conditions (consumption needs) and geographical circumstances (installation position of the turbine). Since choosing this system is highly important for consumer, from the viewpoint of cost per unit of produced power by the turbine, in this paper mathematical relations between the two factors rotor diameter and turbine hub height, resulting from consuming power and geographical circumstances of the region respectively, are determined and then the cost per unit is estimated. Examining the influence of each of the above factors and increasing the validity of the results, turbines with different rated powers and different hub heights for each, in four regions with different geographical circumstances, among those having the greater share in wind energy potential of the country in cold and hot regions are used. Having family incoming rate and as the following the volume of costs paid by the family per 1 kWh of electricity consumption, wind energy conversion system properties can be conveniently specified using these relations.
