Ecological Capability Evaluation of Qazvin Region for Determining Urban Development Potential Points Using Geographic Information System
Author(s):
Abstract:
Today, the importance of applying rational and systematic planning methods in management and optimal use of resources, particularly natural resources, is clear for everyone. Urban physical development results in destroying agriculture farmland, moving to hazardous areas like flooding areas, not suitable slopes which in fact damages ecological balance and sustainability in cities. Qazvin region is one of the biomes that have difficulties due to lack of a systematic administration on environmental resources. In this research, identification and mapping of ecological factors in the region, such as physical parameters (Topography, Elevation, Slope, Soil, Geology, Precipitation, Temperature) and biological parameters (Vegetation density and Conservation areas) affecting in urban development land use, was implemented by geographic information system (GIS).Then, ecological capability of the region were distinguished by urban development ecological model bored on systemic analysis method and implemented based on land suitability (Boolean logic). Therefore, in the region, suitable conditions and characteristics were identified with code 1 and rest of with code 0, in each of three stories of the model. Then, by multiplying of the layers, evaluation of urban development capability for every story was implemented that the results indicate the presence only of class 1 (suitable) in the region.
