Abstract:
To review the history of the theories of counseling and psychotherapy, shows us that in order to construct a theory, five fundamental steps are necessary. First, forming the philosophical pre-assumptions include ontology, humanology and epistemology. The second one is looking for the roots of abnormalities and psychological disorders. The third one is decision about the main aim of counseling and psychotherapy. The fourthone is to explain the method of therapy, means, strategies and techniques of therapy. At last, the fifth phase is to research and studies on the theory. The first three steps are almost theatrical affairs and the others are practical. According to the first three steps, the question of this paper is: can we construct a psychotherapy and counseling theory based on Islamic mysticism? Deductive method is used in this paper for answeringthe question. The results of the paper show us that based on the philosophical foundations of Islamic mysticism and the role of the Director (Morshed) in the spiritual journey (seir-o-solook), we can design a new model for psychotherapy and consoling.
