Comparison of S19 and RB51 vaccines in control program of bovine brucellosis in the farms of Tehran province, before and after using of RB51 (1996-2006)

Message:
Abstract:
RB51 new vaccine with notable characteristics such as doesn’t induce disturbing antibodies in routine diagnostic tests، has used since 2002 in Iran. With special attention to this subject and lack of valid epidemiological studies for field evaluation of RB51، this ecological investigation was conducted during 1996 to 2006 in Tehran province farms. Data were obtained from veterinary organization and analyzed by SPSS (ver. 15). The Results shows that the proportion of RB51 in control program has increased since 2002. The incidence of bovine brucellosis has decreased in duration of study and in the years which RB51 (from 2002 to 2006) was used in control program، incidence of disease is significantly lower than other years (0. 16% versus 0. 3% respectively، p<0. 05). Also it was seen that use of S19 vaccine increased the number of suspected cases of bovine brucellosis. These findings emphasize the good potency of RB51 vaccine in the control and preventing program of bovine brucellosis and introduce it as a suitable replace for S19 vaccine.
