A generalized logistic model of individual tree mortality for aspen, white spruce, and lodgepole pine in Alberta mixedwood forests

Abstract:
Investigation of experiences of implementing development projects in the country show that in the past planning, the importance and value of natural resources and environmental management have been not taken in to account. Many of them without environmental considerations have been designed and operated and the results and consequences are environmental degradation and distribution of pollutants. Environmental Impacts Assessment (EIA) is a management tool for both planning and decision-making stage of development projects to identify, predict and evaluate the environmental impacts of project activities, plans and policy development.Complexity, diversity and huge amount of spatial data used in the EIA process on one hand and the abilities of computer science on the other hand, determine the need of Geographic Information System(GIS) as a tool to analyze the environmental phenomena with spatial and temporal dimensions, the difficulty of collecting, storing, retrieving, and displaying of spatial data and making a unique framework of project management and decision support system. With this description, having a better understanding of the capabilities of GIS as a powerful tool in studies and environmental projects causes evaluators concentration on the analytical tasks and devote less time to rebuild and restore data and increase the efficiency of decision-making in the EIA process.This study is trying to emphasize the key role of spatial data and mechanized system of tools like GIS in the EIA process to guide the management of qualitative and quantitative data, and explain the role and importance of spatial data.
