Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to compare personality traits and anxiety and depression of Iranian traditional wrestling athletes with wrestling, taekwondo and Kabaddi athletes. 175 sportsmen were randomly selected using Morgan and Kerjesy table. Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) were used to collect the data. In addition to descriptive statistics, inferential ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used in this research. The results showed a significant difference in personality traits (introversion, extroversion, stability, instability) among athletes of different sport fields (P<0.05). Iranian traditional wrestlers were more extroverted than those practicing in taekwondo and Kabaddi. Also, Iranian traditional wrestlers were more stable than those practicing in Kabaddi (p<0.05). In fact, Iranian traditional wrestlers had lower anxiety and depression than the other three groups (P<0.01). Also, it can be concluded that Iranian traditional wrestler's personality traits were more stable and they were more extroverted. They also had lower levels of anxiety and depression compared to the other sport fields.
