Seismic Reliability Assessment of Sensitive Coastal Builings Designed by iran MPO Standard

Message:
Abstract:
Design of engineering system is desired to satisfy reliability requirements in both structural components and the whole system. System reliability is the probability that a system can perform as it is required while it is subjected to random changes in system parameters and working conditions. In this paper the effects of uncertainties in different loads exerted on a high sensitivity multistory structure in the coastal zone under the action of design earthquake is investigated. Design loads are computed using Iran Standard Institute No. 2800 Guide recommendations and Iran Marine and Ports Design Code. A variational method is applied to check and solve for nonlinear system responses. First order reliability method is used while the performance function is assumed to be the allowable drift of stories. The results showed that the designed sample structure using available codes in coastal zone is subjected to high risk of fracture. Therefore it is required to revise it.
