Martyr Motahhari's view on dogmatism in the course of history

In this paper, the writer discusses the question of dogmatism, which, in the course of history, has done Islam irreparable harms. The opposite of dogmatism is clear-sightedness, which is recommended by the Qur’an and religious texts. A good part of the paper is devoted to the historical emergence of dogmatism as narrated by Martyr Motahhari. This section discusses three dogmatic groups of Muslims: Khavarij, Salafiyeh and Akhbariyoon. In another section of the paper, the writer discusses the characteristics of the dogmatic Muslims, mentioning Hojattiyeh Association as a modern instance of dogmatic Muslims. Among the dogmas of this group is the belief that corruption and oppression should be made prevalent in the world so that Imam Zaman (peace be upon him) may appear.
