The serological study of Influenza disease in domestic poultry in sea neighbor regions Golestan Province

Background and ObjectivesInfluenza is an acute and severe contagious respiratory disease caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae, which affects birds and mammals. Avian influenza is an infection or syndrome which caused by Influenza viruses type A. The source of disease is aquatic and immigrant birds. Typically, influenza is transmitted through the air by coughs or sneezes, creating aerosols containing the virus. Influenza can also be transmitted by direct contact with birds or their droppings, nasal secretions, or through contact with contaminated surfaces. Some strains such as Asian H9N2 are highly virulent to poultry and may cause more extreme symptoms and significant mortality. In its most highly pathogenic form, influenza in chickens and turkeys produces a sudden appearance of severe symptoms and almost 100% mortality within two days. Therefore the aim of this study was to do an investigation about Influenza disease in domestic poultries and detection of H9N2 virus in obtained samples from birds by using serologic tests.Material and MethodsIn total 308 samples related to birds were tested by using Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Alpha Acid Glycoprotein (AGP) tests.ResultsAs a result in ELISA test 121 cases (60.7%), and in AGP test 18 cases (5.8%) of samples were positive.ConclusionSince mild symptoms can make diagnosis in difficult, tracking the spread of avian influenza requires laboratory testing of samples from infected birds.
