New Environmental Paradigm and Energy Consumption

Abstract:
This paper investigates the relationship between new environmental paradigm (NEP) and energy consumption as an environmental responsible behavior. To conduct the research, a survey method was used and questionnaire was applied to collect data. People in the Northern regions (i.e., Golestan, Mazandaran and Geelan provinces) compose population of the study. Stratified sampling method was used to select the sample of the study and the questionnaires were distributed among 715 samples. The respondents were males and females and selected from rural as well urban residents. The results of the survey show that half of the sample accepted new environmental paradigm and majority of them applied desired pattern of energy consumption. Furthermore, the results indicated that the new environmental paradigm affects on pattern of energy consumption both in rural and urban areas. The overall results suggested that the new environmental paradigm can predict pattern of household energy consumption in rural as we as urban areas of the northern regions.
