The existence of differences between the two arms in terms of strength is considered an original and contemporary issue together, due to the different scientific opinions about the value of the difference, its determinants and causes, and the extent of the impact of the weight-bearing technique on it.
ObjectivesThis study aimed to identify the difference in the One-Repetition Maximum (1RM) and Electromyography (EMG) between the dominant and non-dominant arms based on the arm used to start the exercise.
MethodsThe study sample consisted of 16 healthy male beginners in weightlifting and resistance sports with the following averages: (Age = 19.6 years, BMI = 21.65 kg/m2, Mass = 66.23 kg, and Muscle Mass = 21.46). Special tests were performed to determine the EMG and apply the (EPLEYS Equation) to calculate the 1RM and perform the exercise One Dumbbell - Single Arm Bicep Curl.
ResultsThe study's results showed a difference in 1RM between the dominant and non-dominant arms regardless of which arm started the exercise, but there were no differences in EMG between the dominant and non-dominant arms.
ConclusionThe study recommended accustoming individuals to use both arms and performing special harmonic exercises in the non-important arm to compensate for the difference in strength between both arms, due to the importance of muscular strength in our daily lives as one of the elements of physical fitness related to health.

There is a dearth of literature on match analysis in field hockey. Time-motion analysis, the relationship between play patterns and goal-scoring opportunities, and penalty corner strategies are currently available in the literature on field hockey. Nevertheless, none of the studies have identified the factors contributing to winning. These factors could be used to help coaches develop a specific training schedule, monitor playing patterns, improve player selection processes, specify each player's role, and evaluate their overall performance.
ObjectivesThe present study aimed to identify game-related statistics in Field Hockey that best discriminate between winning and losing teams. The data was gathered from the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup matches.
MethodsThe grouping variable selected for this study was Match Results (i.e., Win/Lose). Whereas the selected game-related statistics were Ball Possession, Shots Attempted, Pass Accuracy, Circle Entries, and Penalty Corner. A total of 36 matches were analyzed. Independent samples t-test was used to compare the mean difference and discriminant analysis was applied to identify the game-related statistics that best discriminate between winning and losing teams.
ResultsThe Results have shown a significant (p<0.05) mean difference for all the selected game-related statistics and the developed discriminant model was also found to be significant (p=0.000). The interpretation of the generated discriminant functions was examined based on the Structure Coefficients (SC) ≥ |0.30|.
ConclusionAccording to the statistical significance of the model and SC, the variables which majorly contributed to discriminating between winning and losing teams were circle entries (SC=.663), ball possession (SC=.415) and shots attempted (SC=.307). Winning teams were examined to be ahead of losing teams in all the game-related statistics.

In weight-category sports, athletes regularly undertake weight-loss diets as competitions approach to lose weight quickly.
ObjectivesThis study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary restriction on body composition and physical performance in young elite karatekas.
MethodsIn a randomized design, 16 young karatekas volunteers (aged 20.14 ± 1.52 years) participated in this study, subdivided into two periods of 7 days each—one period of weight maintenance and one of food restriction. After anthropometric measurements, field tests aimed at assessing speed and acceleration, explosive power (counter-movement and triple standing jump), agility (T-tests), and aerobic endurance (intermittent yo-yo test 2) were performed. A 7-day food diary for each period (without and with food restriction) was used to determine nutritional intake.
ResultsA significant decrease in body mass (p <0.05) was observed after the restriction period. A reduction in jumping power (p = 0.03), as well as a decrease in endurance capacity (p < 0.01), was observed. However, the agility test showed non-significant differences.
ConclusionBased on these results, caloric restriction for rapid weight loss impairs athletes’ physical capacity and sports performance. Preventive measures against this phenomenon are necessary.

While the increased interest in exercise programs combined with whole-body vibration training (WBVT) and those using blood flow restriction (BFR) has prompted various ongoing studies, most of these studies are fragmentary.
ObjectivesThe study aims to investigate the effect of WBVT with BFR on lower limb muscle activity and hemodynamic variables to maintain muscle strength and prevent degenerative loss of skeletal muscle.
MethodsTwenty-one undergraduate students were randomized into Group I (n=10), performing a squat exercise with WBVT, and Group II, (n=11), performing a squat exercise with WBVT with BFR at the 140-mmHg pressure level. The intervention was applied twice daily and 4 times weekly for 6 weeks. Both groups took the anthropometric, body mass, and lower limb muscle activity measurements before and after the intervention.
ResultsIn the within-group comparison before and after the intervention, significant differences in rectus femoris muscle (RFM), biceps femoris muscle (BFM), and gastrocnemius muscle activities were found for Groups I (p<0.05) and II (p<0.05). The between-group comparison found significant differences in RFM and BFM activities (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in hemodynamic variables both within and between groups.
ConclusionsThe WBVT with BFR increased the RFM and BFM activities for lower limbs, while no variation in hemodynamic parameters was detected. The intervention is thus an effective strategy that can be applied in practice. Based on the findings, the scope of the intervention should be extended to include non-healthy individuals. Further studies of the multidimensional approach should also be conducted with additional variables to provide supporting evidence for the discussion of hemodynamic responses.

Sports match-fixing refers to the act of pre-determining the results of a game. Match-fixing fundamentally undermines competition in sports, and it harms society as a whole. Match-fixing has large as it is conducted as a secret transaction. Consequently, finding evidence regarding this illegal activity or detecting it is difficult. Therefore, a system should be built to detect match-fixing to prevent it.
ObjectivesThis study aims to detect betting anomalies in sports events through dividend graphs.
MethodsWe collected the odds data for the K-League from 2010 to 2020 and converted the data into graph images to generate 3101 graph images. The collected data was analyzed using ResNet to classify them into normal games (2,464 games) and abnormal games (637 games) based on an image classification method. The ResNet model was trained for 100 epochs, and as a result, values below 0.05 were derived as the loss values of the training and test data, respectively.
ResultsAfter performing the validation with the test data of 50 normal and 27 abnormal games, it was found that the accuracy in deriving normal games was 90%. Furthermore, match-fixing games were derived with an accuracy of 74.1%. Therefore, the model was accurate for 65 out of 77 games, showing that the model’s accuracy was 84.44%.
ConclusionThe results demonstrate the model’s value as a method for detecting sports match-fixing. Additionally, it can aid in eradicating sports match-fixing by providing the basic data for undertaking detailed match-fixing investigations.
