Efficiency of graminicides and glyphosate in control of Vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash)

Message:
Abstract:
A pot experiment was conducted at research greenhouse of Khorasan-Razavi Agricultural Research Center during 2010-2011 to investigate possible management methods of Vetiver grass. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block designs with eight treatments and four replications. The treatments were consisted of application of glyphosate at doses of 0, 2.46, 3.28 and 4.10 gha-1 plus 2% (v/v) ammonium sulfate, haloxyfop-R-methyl, cycloxidim, sethoxydim and fulazifop-p-butyl each one at recommended dose for most perennial narrow-leaved weeds. Vetiver plants were exposed to herbicides at early growth stage after emergence. Root and shoot dry matter as well as fresh weight were recorded five times during vegetative plant growth stage. The results showed that cycloxidim and glyphosate could control plant growth even at its lowest dose. Although haloxyfop could significantly reduce plant dry matter after application however the plant could recover later on during growing season. No significant difference was observed among sethoxydim, fluazifop and check treatment.
