Comparing Short-Term Memory in Dyscalculic and Normal Students

Short - term memory is considered by some researchers as a cognitive process, on the basis of which the classification of sub- categories of specific learning disabilities can be justified. Accordingly, this research is aimed at investigating short- term memory in two groups of fifth- grade dyscalculic and normal students. Each group consisted of 15 female and 15 male subjects. The materials used consisted of: Diagnostic Checklist of DSM-IV, WISC-R, Key- Math (Persian version) and Ray- Osterrieth Complex Figure Task. The statistical analysis of the data was indicative of the poorer performance of the dyscalculic subjects in memory test in comparison with the normal subjects.
