Effect of Teachers Competencies in Applying Teaching Methods on Improving Learning Strategies among Students

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of teachers’ competencies in applying teaching methods for the improvement of learning strategies among students in Sari high schools. This applied research used semi-experimental method and consisted 6230 high school students as the statistical population. Based on Morgan Table، and with classified random sampling، 364 student، 180 females and 184 males، from 16 classes and in two groups of 8 classes for controlled and experiment، were selected as sample population. Instrument for data collection was a researcher designed questionnaire with 40 items to examine learning strategies، whose reliability was tested with Cronbach Alpha، 0. 85. The results of using parametric independent T test showed that teachers’ competencies in experiment group meaningfully affected improvement of learning strategies، cognitive strategies and meta-cognitive strategies among students. The degree of this improvement was equal among female and male students، but in regard to the improvement of meta-cognitive strategies it was much higher than cognitive strategies.
