Pathological study of thyroid gland in lori-bakhtiari sheep

Iodine deficiency is one of the common deficiencies in mountainous and far from sea areas. Determination of iodine is the basis of main examinations of thyroid functions. In this study, histological changes of thyroid gland in sheep were studied. A total of 120 samples of thyroid tissues were randomly collected from slaughtered sheep. Histopathological sections were prepared from thyroid samples and were studied for pathologic lesions. The result showed that 47, 20, 8 and 16 samples showed mild to severe hyperplasia, follicular dilation, hyperemia and hyperplasia with follicular dilation, respectively.
