Crisis Management Leading by Media and the factors affecting its performance

Abstract:
This article aims to identify the factors which influence the media management in crises as well as it tries to define the best decisions and the proper orientation in different social, economic and political crises. The sample in this paper includes managers and news editors in Iran Broadcasting(Televising and Radio) as well assome of the largest circulation newspapers in Tehran; the research method which has been used in this paper is survey and documentary. The pretest andCronbach's alphahas been used for examining the reliability and validity of the questionnaire from the expertise’sviewpoint. The main question in this research is: which factors influence media management? In addition what kind of strategy, approach and function should be chosen by the press and broadcasting managers in the crises? According to the results, the media managers recognizethat the best news approach in crisis is better to be interactive, also in their opinion the strategy is better to be active and the informational functions with independent orientations can be more desirable. According to the findings there are many factors which may affect the performance of management in crisis. Some of these factors which may cause different functionsin crisis are as follows:professionalism, the type of mediasystem, Ideological base, dependency or independence from the government, the background of the crisis, competitor performance, etc.
