Developing Creative Thinking: A Problem Solving Approach in Curriculum

In the era of an increasing trend of developments, successful people are those who tackle problems creatively; a variable associated with many factors such as teaching and education. This issue is of critical significance for students amid the formal atmosphere of occupation and semiformal one of education. As a relevant attempt, this study tried to investigate the efficiency of problem solving instruction on developing learner's creative thinking. As a quasi-experimental research, the study involved 150 university students to fill out a creativity questionnaire (Abedi, 1984) after being exposed to pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Independent t-tests were run to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that the experiment group and performed the control one in terms of developing creative thinking. The respective delayed test results also supported higher retention (though with a bit attrition) among the experimental group.
