Factor Structure and Psychometric Properties of Emotional Schema Scale
This research tends to examine the emotional schema model and investigate the factor structure and psychometric properties of emotional schema scale on a normal sample of Iranian students. The method was correlational, and the community was comprised of all the students of Shiraz University and from among them, a total of 363 people (181 male, 182 female) were selected using the stratified random sampling procedure. In order to apply LESS on the Iranian sample, the scale was first translated into Farsi through double translation. To examine LESS convergent validity, the correlation coefficients of the scale as well as BAI, BDI-II, and DERS were used. Moreover, internal correlations and exploratory factor analysis were applied in order to examine the construct validity of the scale. Also, test-retest reliability method with two weeks interval (n=30) and Chronbach’s alpha coefficient were used to examine the reliability of LESS. The results obtained from CFA showed that from among 16 extracted factors of the scale, 12 were associated with LESS, three factors were omitted as a result of loading of just one item, and a new factor called “emotional self awareness” was added to the scale. The high association of the scale with BDI, BAI, and DERS suggested a significant convergent validity, and internal correlation of the items confirmed the construct validity of the scale. In addition, results obtained from the examination of the reliability of the scale showed good reliability for the scale. Based on the results obtained from the research, LESS could be applied to attain research and clinical aims in the Iranian society.
