Abstract:
Suicide means deliberately ending life that according to the existing evidence is increasing within the developing countries. The present review study aimed to determine the current patterns of suicide in the mentioned countries and to provide relevant prevention strategies. In 2012، the PubMed search engine (http: //www. ncbi. nlm. nih. gov/pubmed) was searched using terms “suicide”، “prevention” and “developing countries”، which should appear in the title of the articles. In the next step and by changing the search strategy and studying the references of the retrieved papers، it was tried to determine the most relevant and up-to-dated articles for this review study. The retrieved papers have highlighted that the majority of increasing suicides have been occurred among youths، especially young married women in developing countries. Despite this increase، there is not enough attention to this phenomenon in developing countries. Since the pattern of suicide is heavily affected by the cultural situations of each society، it would be possible to prevent this phenomenon by collecting and analyzing precise information regarding existing suicide patterns. As a result، prevention strategies should be population-based and cover all three levels of prevention.
