A Spatial Analysis of Security In Urban Spaces Case study: Region 3 of Isfahan

Abstract:
A dimension of cities which is associated with security of urban environments is the space and urban construction. A favorable urban space ensures the security while inappropriate urban spaces compromise this security and provide a breeding ground for all kinds of social problems. Thus, this research seeks to analyze the issue of security and the factors that create insecurity in urban spaces of region 3 of Isfahan. The spaces under study include streets, sidewalks, squares and recreation centers. The data were collected using library and field research methods. The field data were collected by means of a questionnaire using random sampling method with a sample population of 120 subjects. The results demonstrated that 73.3% of the users of urban spaces in region 3 of Isfahan felt relatively, highly and extremely insecure when using these spaces. However, this feeling of insecurity varied across different spaces. In general, streets with 37.5% created the highest feeling of insecurity in people and recreation centers with 30%, sidewalks with 23.3% and squares with 1.75 were in the next orders.
