The correlation of attachment styles with self-actualization in Psychotherapist in Tehran

Abstract:
Abstarct: The self-actualization literature reveals that self-actualization is one of efficient variables of effective counseling. There are some evidence that attachment security correlates with self-actualization and some dimensions of it. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of attachment styles with self-actualization in psychotherapist occupied individuals. The statistical society included psychotherapist in Tehran. The sample included 145 individuals selected from psychotherapy and counseling centers in Tehran; by non-probability multistage method. The research instruments included Hazan and Shaver attachment styles questionnaire (1993) - AAQ and Leclerc & et al. Measure of actualization of potential-MAP. Data analyzed using Pierson correlation،Kruskal walis، independent sample t test and Chi square. The results showed that self-actualization and openness scores had significant negative correlation with avoidant attachment style in psychotherapists and a significant positive correlation was found in openness to self subscale scores of psychotherapists with avoidant attachment style. Founding has been discussed.
