The Prevalence of Infertility in Iran, A Systematic Review

Abstract:
Introduction
Infertility is a major problem in medical sciences. The prevalence of infertility is increasing worldwide. The prevalence of infertility has different based the studies conducted in various parts of Iran. Therefore، we carried out a systematic review to examine the prevalence of infertility in Iran.
Methods
This study systematically reviewed the prevalence of infertility in Iran using keywords infertility، prevalence of infertility and Iran. In the initial search، 32 articles were available. After reviewing all full-texts، 13 articles were selected for analysis. Data were combined using meta-analysis (random effects model) and analyzed using STATA software version 11. 1.
Results
Of the 13 reviewed articles، 55658 people have been participated. Average of infertility was reported 13. 2%. Overall prevalence of primary infertility and secondary infertility in Iran were respectively 5. 2% and 3. 2%. 2. 2% of the participants in the studies had primary infertility at present.
Conclusion
Despite the prevalence of infertility is different in various parts of Iran، the overall prevalence of infertility in Iran is close to the global statistic.
