The relationship between identity style and ethnic adentity among university students from Torkaman, Kord and Mazani ethnic groups

Ethnic identity refers to a psychological sense with a group of people with a common cultural heritage and location. Task of identification for persons belonging to ethnic groups may be more difficult for several reasons; because these persons need to pay attention to a wider ranges of values and norms that by family tradition, ethnicity as well as by larger society is presented. For these reasons finding a balance between these cultural systems are not easy. Given the importance of identity in shaping peoples character and goals, this study aims to investigate the identity of students based on Berzonsky model and its relation with their ethnic identity. 150 students from three ethnic groups: Torkaman,Kord and Mazani participated in this study and filled Brzonskys identification style questionnaire and Phinneys multidimensional ethnic identity scale. Data analysis showed that there is no significant differences in the identity style in these ethnic groups and most of students have information-oriented style. Pierson correlation showed a positive correlation between ethnic identity and information-oriented style and there was not significant differences in level of ethnic identity among these three ethnic groups.
