Polyphonic essence of Assia Djebar's writing: esthetic and ideological strategy

Assia Djebar’s writing، the writer who belongs to the first generation of founders of an Algerian and francophone literature، is situated at a cultural context of polyphony and hybridity. Her writing swings between French as her language of education، instruction، intellectual formation، and her Arabic-Islamic culture as her “culture of sensibility”. By emphasis on the post-colonial studies on polyphony as a distinguished characteristic of literary modernity، our research proposes to explore the work of Assia Djebar for a perusal of her writing of polyphonic “me”. We focus، in particular، on L’amour، la fantasia (1985) and Vaste est la prison (1995) for a thematic and stylistic analysis of textual and contextual structure of identical construction of Djebar’s polyphonic “me”. We intend to demonstrate the remarkable polyphonic، humanizing، democratic and dialogic dimension of her autobiographical work that is among the last chances of such literature for expansion of respect، coexistence and dialog in the world of cultural shocks.
