Analyses of water consumption pattern in Iran: An index number approach Print

Because of low and heterogeneous distribution of rainfall, it is necessary to manage accurately water resources in Iran. In this regards, water resources must be used more efficiently and also less water intensive sectors must be developed in dry regions. In this study, using Divisia and refined Divisia indices, water consumption pattern in Iran was analyzed in 2008. Aggregate water intensity was decomposed to intensity and structural effect that show the water use efficiency and intensity of water use in the economic sectors of each province. Results show that in some dry provinces such as south Khorasan, Khorasan razavi, Khozestan, Sistan and Balouchestan, Fars, Ghom, Kerman and Hormozgan water is used more intensive.
