Historical Approach to the failure of application of Islamic Concepts in Practice Case Study: Enjoining Good and Forbidding Wrong

The problem in the spotlight of this article is the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice which like many other Islamic concepts not applied in practice. In this study، in addition to explaining the nature and significance of this concept، we attempt answer to question historically why the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice in Islamic societies is not considered. «Historical approach» here means explaining the problem in concrete form and in the context of political، social and economic. In response، the main challenge is formation of rigid structures and authoritarian regimes because the underlying concept in the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice approve personal and social freedom in the face of government. Hence، in spite of the emphasis on religious texts، in practice and history is not considered.
