The Effects of E tesam al-Molk's Constitutionalist Thought on Parvin E tesami's Poems

Message:
Abstract:
Parvin E’tesami (1907-1941) should be viewed as one of the poets of the transitional period of the Iranian history from the Constitutional Revolution to modern era. Although she spent twenty years of her life in Reza Shah’s modernization time, but the deep effects of the Constitutional movement’s ideals on her poems can be recognized; ideals like freedom and equality which were embodied in people’s demands for the establishment of the court of justice, the rule of law, limiting the unlimited power of the rulers, and making them responsible to citizens. Among such demands, women’s demand for changing their social roles and status should not be ignored. As it will be seen, in many places in E’tesami’s poems, the idea of necessary changes in women’s social status is recognizable. The thoughts of her father, Mirza Yousef E’tesam al-Molk, had great influents on the formation of Parvin’s views, including her views on women’s rights. These as pects are discussed in the present paper.
