The impact of A Corrective Exercises Program on Dynamic Balance in Individuals with Idiopathic Scoliosis

Message:
Abstract:
Objectives
The present paper aimed to investigate the effect of a corrective exercises program on dynamic balance in individuals with Idiopathic scoliosis.
Materials and Methods
Twenty individuals with Idiopathic Scoliosis (average age: 13.6 ± 2.7 years, height: 153 ± 13.9 cm, weight: 44.4± 9.6 kg) participated voluntarily to carry out this survey. They were divided into two experimental (N = 10) and control (N= 10) groups. At first the tests stages/procedures and the training protocol were explained for the subjects by the researcher before measuring their heights and weights. Consequently the tests (standing from a support and walking successively or toe-heel) were carried out to measure the dynamic balance. Finally the experiment group performed the corrective exercises program for 4 weeks, 3 sessions per week, 45 minutes per session, while the control group did not do any exercise. After 4 weeks, both groups performed the tests again as described above. At last independent and dependent t-test were used for data analysis.
Results
The results showed that a corrective exercises test program is significantly influential on both variables, i.e. Step Width (P) and End Sway (P), but not on the Speed (P). In addition, there was a significant difference between both groups in terms of both variables, i.e. Step Width (P) and End Sway (P), while there was no significant difference for Walk Speed (P). For the successive (toe-heel) walking test, the Sway Velocity (P) is significantly affected, but not for Wt Transfer (P) or Rising Index (P). There was a significant difference in the comparison of both groups in terms of the Sway Velocity (P) variable, but not for Wt Transfer (P) or Rising Index (P).
Conclusion
It may be deducted according to the final results of the present survey that a corrective exercises program is effective to improve the Idiopathic Scoliosis disease.
