Investigating the Effects of Physical Fitness and Psychological Characteristics (Mental Health, and Mental Toughness) on the Performance of the Big Tehran Police Forces
Police play an important role in every society’s health. Given that police performance is influenced by different factors such as physical fitness and psychological characteristics, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of physical fitness and psychological characteristics (toughness and mental health) on police performance. The method of this study was descriptive, correlational and practical. The study population consisted of all Tehran police staff (no.), of which individuals were selected through Morgan’s Table as a sample. Physical fitness tests (-meter and -meter running tests, sit-up, push-up, etc.), Goldberg’s general health (physical syndrome, anxiety, sleep disorder, impaired social function, and depression), Ahvaz toughness scale (commitment, control and militant), and organizational constructed questionnaire for the police staff performance were used. Cranach’s alpha coefficient in all of the pretested individuals was. Data analysis was done by using descriptive and inferential statistics (regression analysis) at p <. The results indicated that physical fitness and psychological characteristics had positive significant effect on the police performance. Also physical fitness and mental health subscales as well as toughness components had positive significant effect on the police performance. Given that the importance of police performance was clear; therefore, planning for improving the physical fitness factors and psychological characteristics is necessary.
