An Analysis of Propagandist Propositions in Daneshvar's Stories on the Basis of Bakhtin's Point of View

Abstract:
While reading a story, our presupposition is that characters get involved in dialogues created by the writer."Polyphony" is partly about these dialogues among characters and /or between the character and the narrator. In Daneshvar's stories, however, characters are mostly involved in dramatic monologues. These monologues are usually propagandist propositions which are variously put in the form of sentences that might continue for pages in a novel or a short story. This paper calls these running sentences "resolutions".The hypothesis here is that as one reads Daneshvar's various texts (either short stories or novels) in the chronological order of their creation, their tendency towards propagandist propositions increases considerably. Therefore, stories that could have been genuine samples of polyphonic texts had turned into ideological monologues. Therefore, these texts develop their own stories in the form of a monologue or they present some characters whose variety does not refute the fact that they are all spokespersons of the author herself. In other words, their voice belongs to the author.Based on Bakhtin's ideas and notions, this paper analyzes the propositional texts that are written by Daneshvar. It also reveals how the author gets fascinated and absorbed by her own voice which is conveyed through the character's discourse. This library-based study tackles the issue through a descriptive –analytical point of view.
