Factors Associated with Increased Heavy Goods Vehicle Accidents in Drivers of Heavy Vehicles (Case study: Ardabil Province)

According to the World Health Organization, road traffic accidents causing one million and three hundred thousand deaths per year are. If no proper action is taken, this issue is expected to result in sixty-five percent of the injuries and the death rate due to traffic accidents by 2020, more than eighty percent of the increase. World Health Organization statistics show that Iran is one of the highest statistics of deaths caused by traffic accidents in the world. The aim of this study was to examine factors associated with accidents involving heavy vehicle drivers in Ardabil province. This was a cross sectional descriptive - analytical study, and is based on data related to 103 drivers that are authorized to conduct periodic examinations to one of the centers of Ardebil province who had been doing. Relevant information, such as accident history, age, works experience, hour’s worked per week were gathered through a questionnaire-based survey. There were 88 accidents reported during the same yea. The factors age, BMI, work hours and shift work were significantly associated with the incidence of road accidents. (p<0.05) On the other hand, having the second job, neurological disorders, and were found to experience significant relationship (p>0.05). After adjusting for study variables regression analysis, a significant relationship between the accident and the driver working hours per week, body mass index, age over50yearsandless than29years, was seen(p<0.05). Due to increased crash risk increases with age over 50yearsseems to reduce the working hours of drivers in reducing traffic accidents after the age of Wind. In addition, it is recommended that drivers reduce the working week can reduce the traffic accident will result.
