Complications of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Compared with and without the Use of Drains in Uncomplicated Cases of Chronic Cholecystitis

The routine use of drains in uncomplicated laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC) has still been controversial. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of applying drains in uncomplicated LC. This study is a randomized prospective interventional study without blindness. After removing gallbladder, 60 patients were randomized to have corrugated drain positioned in the subhepatic space and 60 patients were randomized to have no drain. Patients were assessed for abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and the length of hospital stay 24 hr after the surgery. Then, they were assessed for biloma two weeks after the surgery.
