Common Viewpoints on Indexing and Retrieving Images on the Web

This paper studies the importance of image indexing with the emphasis on two techniques of concept-based and content-based related to Knowledge and Information Studies and Computer Science studies respectively. This is a literature review discussing on different approaches in image indexing. Image indexing is more complex in compare to text indexing, because looking through the images requires more attention. Images consist of different characteristics and offer various layers of meaning. Besides, images not only represent something but also convey a certain feeling. Therefore, the image characteristics and new advances in Information technology make a difference in image indexing and retrieval approaches and methods.
