Nursing concept in Islamic literature

Nursing is a basic need to restore the health to the community. It is a religious obligation depends on having sufficient scientific data associated with the enforcement and ethical, human, Islamic aware conscience. This study is aimed to find nursing concept in Islamic literature. This study is qualitative content analysis in order to finding nursing concept in Islamic literature. So we searched documents and Islamic literature such as Quran, Nahjolbalagheh, traditions and many websites such as Parsidog, Hodablog, Iqna, Noormag, Parvaz, Yasin and Arabic sites such as Ghorarolhekam, Osoole Kafi, Ghorbol-asnad from 1370 to1391 with keywords such as worship, nurse and care. Phrases that had these words were selected as semantic units and were studied in implicit and explicit qualitative content analysis. Firstly, 453 meaning units in Islamic literatures were extracted. During the process of data analysis and subcategories, categories and themes extraction, 56 subcategories, 14 categories and 4 themes were extracted. Extracted themes included “ethical standard” (7 categories) with names “ethics”, “kindness and empathy”, “humility and respect to the patient”, “charity”, “patience and persistence”, “endurance and piety opening”. “empowerment” (3 categories) with names “merit”, “knowledge”, “commitment and accountability”, “Safe care” (3 categories) with names “care”, “removing need care”, “safe care and relationship”. the findings show nursing is a holly profession must be performed in cultural and Islamic context based on ethical standards, high ability by providing safe care and efficient relationships with colleagues and patients. So, we recommended teaching this concept to the students, and also clinical nurses through retraining programs in order to Strengthening of nursing concept from view point of Islam.
