Message:
Abstract:
Introduction
Malaria is one of the most serious hygienic concerns around the world. Malaria surveillance system is one of the oldest and most comprehensive surveillance systems for health care systems in Iran. Malaria control program was changed from control to elimination stage since 1390. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of malaria elimination program on the data quality and accuracy in malaria surveillance system.
Methods
This study is a cross-sectional study within four universities of malaria -prone provinces in Iran where there is local transmission of malaria. In this study، to evaluate the completeness and accuracy of information، data reporting forms 3 and 4 in the two time periods before (years 13 88 and 89) and after (years 1390 and 91) the malaria elimination program compared.
Result
This study was investigated by 1927 reporting forms (3 and 4) Checking the completeness of the information، in terms of medical universities and for two studied forms (3 and 4) the highest and lowest percentage were 94. 78 % and 17. 30 % for Iranshahr and Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences، respectively. Completeness index of the two forms 3 and 4 in 2009 and 2010 (prior to the elimination of malaria) was equal to 83. 7 % and this amount with a slight increase in the years after the elimination of malaria (1390 and 1391) had reached 85 %. Accuracy of data studied reporting forms of malaria cases after malaria elimination program compared with before have increased up to 8. 2 %. To examine differences in the completeness and accuracy data for after and before elimination program، Chi-square test was used and showed no significant.
Conclusion
Increas ing the completeness index of reporting data of form 4 was associated with a 4 % increase and however، it was expected which the completeness index will be improved، form3 had a 3% reduction in it. Our study showed that the elimination program was not significant effect in complete and accuracy of the reporting form.
