Message:
Abstract:
The purpose of This study is to compare the anthropometric characteristics, flexibility of upper and lower limb and spine in athletic and non- athletic police officers (employees) in Gilan province. In order to conduct this study, the participants were 180 people bifurcated to two equal groups of athletic and non-athletic, each consisting 90 people. Taken as the samples, each group was further divided to three classes based on the years of employees’ service namely; fewer than 10 years, 11-20 years and 21 - 30 years of service. In the present study, in order to measure the anthropometric characteristics of employees tape measure and scale were used, respectively. By the same token, goniometer was used in order to measure the anthropometric ranges of motion of upper and lower limb and spine of each group. To this aim, each measurement was conducted three times and their mean was taken, then. The descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (the independent t- test for comparisons of athletic and non-athletic participants and one- way ANOVA and Tukey test for analyzing the difference among three classes were used analyze the data at the significance level of. p<0.05. The results taken from this study showed that in comparing anthropometric variables of athletic and non-athletic participants there was a significant difference among Abdominal circumference and in the flexibility in joints, external rotation of the shoulder, Hip abduction, Plantar flexion of the ankle, Extension of the spine (P<0.05.). Similarly, there was a significant difference among the comparison of Anthropometric characteristics at three years of service, Shoulder width, foot length, shin length, thigh length, thigh circumference, and the flexibility in joints, External rotation of the shoulder, Hip abduction, and Plantar flexion of the ankle(P<0.05.). In the light of the findings of the study, aging and years of service lead to lower flexibility and it seems that low muscular endurance in the abdominal back muscles and decreasing the flexibility in athletic in lumbar increase the risk of backache. It emphasizes a particular care and consideration regarding the stretching exercises for athletic and non- athletic in aged employees with more years of service to prevent backache and Cardiovascular disease.
